About This Property

Take a step back in time…

The “Victorian Homestead” was built in 1898 by the Ohinemuri Mining Syndicate for the Victoria Battery Manager.  Constructed of beautiful native Kauri and Matai timber.

The homestead employed a Butler/Manservant, a Cook/Maid, a full time Gardener and a Coachman/Driver.  A Blacksmiths premise on Lot 41 serviced the carriers and shoeing of the horses in the township.

The Victoria Stamping Battery closed in 1952 and the home was sold into private ownership in 1953.  It is believed that when the Stamping Battery was demolished, most of the steel was shipped to Japan for the rebuild of Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

The fifth and current owners purchased the property in April 1983. The homestead has been re-roofed, re-piled, rewired and re-plumbed.  The owners have allowed the original layout to stand proud with the addition of radiators in the hallways and Fisher wood stoves in the lounge and kitchen.  All the doors, skirting and architraves were meticulously stripped to reveal the beautiful Kauri timber in its natural form. The six handcrafted floral scrolls in the hallway are a true reflection of the era.

The native bush has been fenced off for approximately 36 years; free of livestock to allow the bush to regenerate.  From the stream running through the property to the many native birds and the over 100-year-old wisteria in the garden (planted by the Battery Managers wife), this is a property steeped in history.

The shed situated on Lot 1 is fitted out with 3 Phase Power.

The property as it is today, consists of 11 titles (5 separate rates demands) with a paper road which could be purchased from Council by way of negotiation.  Such purchase would only increase the size of the property.

This property rich in history still has so many opportunities to be unlocked in the future. As the Waikino area is an extremely popular area for tourism.

Very Rarely do we see properties with this historic presence and authenticity come to the market and with the tourism opportunities in the Waikino area the possibilities are endless.
